In this presentation, I will talk about some work on optimizing media for 3-dimensional magnetic recording (3DMR). 3DMR is a magnetic recording technology where multiple layers of media are stacked one on top of the other. Each layer in the 3D-stack requires the ability to be written to, and read back from independently from the other layers in the stack. The proposed way of writing to multiple layers, is to use the MAMR (microwave assisted magnetic recording) principle to target different layers in the stack. When the media-stack is hit with one frequency, a particular layer responds to this frequency and becomes "enabled" for writing. The write field then writes only on the layers being targeted by the appropriate microwave frequency. Here we will discuss the optimization process of the media stack and optimization of the spin-torque oscillator that generates the microwave assisting signals for 3D-MAMR.

报告人简介:
Chan Kheong Sann received his bachelors from North western University in 1996 and his PhD from the National University of Singapore in 2000 and is currently a professor at Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) in China. His research interests are in coding and signal processing for recording channels, channel modeling, and detection/decoding for wireless communications. His research work has contributed to the information storage industrial consortium (INSIC) and advanced storage technology consortium (ASTC) in the US. In 2009, he was awarded the INSIC Technical achievement award for his work on advanced channel modeling, and has been granted two recent ASTC sponsored projects in 2015 and 2016. He was awarded an NRF grant in 2014 to explore novel joint detection/decoding schemes for satellite channels. In 2017, he transferred to the Nanjing Institute of Technology and was the recipient of the Jiangsu Distinguished Professor Award.
Chan Kheong Sann于1996年在西北大学获得学士学位,并在2000年于新加坡国立大学获得博士学位,现任职中国南京工程学院教授。研究方向主要是记录信道的编码和信号处理,信道建模以及无线通信的检测/译码。他的研究工作为美国的the information storage industrial consortium(INSIC)和advanced storage technology consortium (ASTC)做出了贡献。2009年,因先进的信道建模工作而被授予INSIC技术成就奖,并在2015年和2016年获得了两个ASTC赞助项目。2014年获得NRF资助研究卫星频道的新型联合检测/译码方案。2017年,获得江苏省杰出教授奖。
